MUSCLE SHOALS – The Jacksonville State men's golf team put a league-high three players on the All-Ohio Valley Conference Team, which was released at Sunday's OVC Awards Banquet.
Senior Benedikt Thalmayr and sophomores Quim Vidal Mora and Jesus Dario Montenegro were each named to the All-OVC squad for the 2018-19 season. The Gamecocks were one of just two programs with multiple selections, one ahead of SIUE's two.
All three have been honored by the OVC before, with Montenegro the only one making his second appearance on the All-OVC Team. He and Vidal Mora were OVC All-Newcomer selections a year ago and Thalmayr was an All-Newcomer pick two seasons ago.
Thalmayr is the lone senior on the Gamecocks roster in 2018-19 and has been the Gamecocks' most consistent player during the season. The Ouching, Germany, native is tied for fifth in the league with a 72.2 stroke average entering Sunday's first round of the OVC Tournament.
He shot the second-lowest round by an OVC player this season, when his final-round 65 at the Golfweek Program Challenge in September led the Gamecocks to a second-place finish in the event. He claimed his first career win at the Arkansas State Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in early May.
Vidal Mora is tied for seventh in the OVC in stroke average with a 72.5 entering the OVC Tournament. The native of Barcelona, Spain also carded his low round of the regular season at the Golfweek Program Challenge with a second-round 68.
Vidal Mora bested that round in Sunday's opening-round, tying his career-low round with a 67 that has him just one shot off of the lead. In 11 events in his sophomore season, he has six Top 20, three Top 10 and two Top Five finishes.
Montenegro is on the All-OVC squad for the second-straight season after posting a 73.3 scoring average in his sophomore campaign. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina has four Top 20, three Top 10 and two Top Five finishes in his second season as a Gamecock.
He shot a 66 at the Golfweek Program Challenge, tied for the fifth-lowest round by an OVC player this season, and carded 11 rounds of par or better before an opening round 67 has him a shot off the lead in the OVC Tournament on Sunday.
